Free for Mac

A rug for your desktop.

Tassel lays a real, physically simulated rug across your Mac's desktop. Grab it anywhere and drag it: it lifts, wrinkles and pivots the way a heavy rug does. Fold a corner over and it stays folded.

The Arraiolos rug from Portugal, cream with a navy field and red carnations, one corner folded back to show its underside

Why Tassel

It does nothing useful at all.

That is the point. Tassel is a toy, something to smile at between windows. The rug lies below your windows and above your icons, and it stays exactly as you leave it. Leave it crumpled and it is still crumpled tomorrow.

Rugs from around the world

Nine famous rugs, drawn knot by knot.

Turn it over

Fold a corner and see the back.

  • The Heriz rug with a corner folded back, showing the knotted design on its underside

    Every knot showing

Knotted rugs show their knots: the same design on the back, every knot showing through. This is the Heriz.

  • The Kilim rug with a corner folded back, showing the same pattern on its underside

    The same on both sides

Flatweaves have no wrong side, so the back is the front again. This is the Kilim.

  • The Arraiolos rug with a corner folded back, showing a grey rubber backing

    Anti-slip rubber

Or give any rug a grey rubber backing. Pictures you add get it by default.

  • The Arraiolos rug with a corner folded back, showing a jute canvas backing

    Jute canvas

Or a plain jute canvas back, for any rug.

Make it yours

Your rug, the way you like it.

  • Size

From a bath mat to a living-room rug.

  • Fabric weight

    Light, normal or heavy fabric.

  • Tassels

Fringe on both ends, or a clean edge. On or off.

  • A breeze

Air from any corner, from a gentle flutter to a gust that heaps it up.

  • Smooth or rumpled

Smooth it out when you let go, or leave every wrinkle where it falls.

  • Your own picture

Drop a picture onto the rug and it is woven into a rug too.

Gentle on your Mac

A still rug costs nothing.

When the rug is still, Tassel uses no CPU and no GPU at all. It sits below your windows and above your icons, and clicks pass straight through everywhere the rug is not. With the breeze on, the rug keeps moving, so it uses a little.
